Just one more thing
Yesterday I wrote that I have said all I am going to say about Todd Bentley and the Lakeland “revival” and the subsequent “breakouts”. Well, I have just one more thing.
I urge you to please read this post by Jonathan Martin, pastor at Renovatus in Charlotte, NC. Listen to the sermon podcast he links there. Jonathan presents in his sermon the most graceful challenge to this drive to chase spiritual experiences. He admits his own struggle with his own “at times bizarre search for what Azuza Street journalist Frank Bartleman called ‘the spectacular’ over and against ‘the wonderful,’”. Jonathan asks that question that Jesus asked, “Can you drink from the cup?” Does Jesus call us to fame, to fortune, to acceptance, to spiritual highs? Or does Jesus call us to servanthood, to humility, to charity, to contentment?
Admittedly, this is difficult for me. Even here, on this blog, just yesterday, I admitted my own struggle for acceptance, for affirmation. I want to belong. I want to be recognized as having some worth. It’s hard to maintain the balance of being who I am and doing what God calls me to do with remaining solely in pursuing God’s glory and not my own.
Ok, now I am done. Seriously. ‘Nuff Said.
~~ Grace and Peace ~~
