Thursday Thirteen – 2nd Edition
~
This week, Thursday Thirteen started a theme series. In preparation for summer vacations, the theme this week is to list thirteen places I have visited. In no a particular order or ranking:
- Walt Disney World — have been three times. When I was eleven years old, in 2000 and again 2005. Our trip in 2000 was magical. Maybe experiencing it for the first time with my kids was the key. The 2005 trip had a lot of stress involved and I think the kids enjoyed the house we rented more than anything. I have said I would never go back but yeah, I’d like to give it another shot one day.
- Myrtle Beach/Surfside Beach– both in SC — I have vague memories of visiting Myrtle Beach as a child. It is more commercial. My father retired to Surfside Beach in 1997 and it became a favorite place to visit. Much more family friendly. Brookgreen Gardens is just a short drive and is well worth a visit.
- Oklahoma Citycarowin — I’ve been several times when my husband has been there for training. Still a real cowboy town. Be sure to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.
- Georgetown, SC — Beautiful waterfront town. The Rice Paddy had the best shrimp and grits and jalapeno pimento cheeseburger that we have said would be worth the four hour drive alone. Not now that I am going raw — oh well.
- Carowinds — I haven’t been in years but it was a favorite amusement park as a teen and young adult
- Six Flags over Georgia — Again, haven’t been in years but I remember liking Six Flags more than Carowinds
- St. Louis — another trip with my husband. While he was busy, I went to an art festival but the highlight was visiting the City Museum
- Denver, CO — We crammed a lot into our 48 hours there — Denver Botanic Gardens, History Museum, Tattered Cover Book Store to name a few.
- Charleston, SC — We got off to a rough start in Charleston but I remember thewalking tours were wonderful.
- Wilmington, NC — It’s where my husband grew up. Another historical city with great walking tours and tours of historic houses.
- Sarasota, FL — the biggest surprise my husband pulled off was taking me to Sarasota to see Les Miserables at the Van Wezel Hall. Yes, it is a purple building. We also visited the beautiful white beaches and I wish we could have gone to a drum circle. We did visit the Ringling Museum also. The Banyan trees are amazing!
- Cornerstone Festival near Bushnell, IL. A week of camping, music, speakers, community!
- Greenville, SC It’s my hometown and simply beautiful. We have art museums, a hometown baseball team, not only a beautiful downtown park but many more in the county, Greenville Little Theatre is one of several, a history museum, a science center, children’s museum is on its way, concerts and shows are available at the Peace Center and the Bilo Center, Shakespeare in the Park, Artisphere is just one of two annual art festivals, many other outdoor events downtown, a state park and so much more. No matter where I roam I think there is no place like home.

I may have to check out Greenville, SC! Great post!
I love to see people advocating for their hometown! I have been to Myrtle Beach…I think it’s the antithesis to St. George!
Six Flags. Whoo hoo!!! What a fun place.
Great list. I forgot there was a theme this week, but I’ve already started for next week so I won’t forget.
Happy TT!
I’ve been some of the places while traveling with my husband on the 18-wheeler. You get a different perspective from up there.
Disney bored me. Only because I was… 17? And I was to big for like…everything.
Cynthia, if you ever make it to St. Louis again let me know.
The City Museum is pretty cool.
and Kent, if you ever make it to Greenville, you let me know!
I think you would love our downtown area; such a great balance of new and old, buildings and gardens plus a great listening room near where I saw Over the Rhine — incredible little place.
[...] felt rather sorry for myself for a moment, but then I was over at Cynthia’s site and saw her list of places she has traveled. I got to thinking of all of the wonderful places that I have had the [...]
